update on the move and other bits

Things have gotten crazy around here.

We are less than 40 days away from leaving and we still don't have orders. This is a problem because we can't do anything without orders. I mean the basic stuff. We can't schedule the household goods pick-up (aka "day with the movers" for you non-military types), take our vehicle to be shipped (not even the one we're paying for out of pocket!), get our tickets out of here, pick up the boys' school records...none of that and more! It's so frustrating!

At least we know we're leaving, though. There was a six week timeframe where we thought we were staying another year. I was not thrilled, as you might imagine. It's only been two weeks since they gave us the go-ahead-and-move-then wave. Whew!

We've been spending our time taking last minute trips, trying to organize the house (an exercise in futility when you have four kids), and planning a trip for the return to the states. We've also been spending some serious quality time with our closest friends here. They are leaving in less than two weeks and we are going to miss them terribly.

All this to say that, although I certainly haven't forgotten about my little blog here, I have a lot of "real life" stuff going on that is keeping me hopping all day long. It might be a little quieter here for just a bit longer. Please hang with me. I will be back!

  1. Where are you PCSing? We're hoping to extend when our time is up. We love living in Germany. Though if Mr. HH could get orders to England (he's making all kinds of contacts in an attempt to make that happen), I will give Germany a big old Tchuss and be out the door in a flash.

  2. We are headed to Northern California. We've really enjoyed our time here but we're about to hit 7 years. USAFE won't let us stay any longer (although we are ready to move on!) and there weren't any open overseas assignments when Jason's list came out. We would have loved England too!

And we got our orders earlier today! Yay!

  3. I've been wondering where you have been!! I'm glad everything is going well and that you are just out having fun. I see from the comments that you got your orders. Congrats!!!

Keep us posted as best you can and know we will be here waiting when you can come back!

  4. Yay for getting orders. The last time we lived in Germany we got orders that had us PCSing in 2 weeks. Oh, how we laughed. We've lived in Germany on and off for a total of 8 years now. They just keep sending us back, so we're going to see if they'll just let us stay put. All this back and forth is really a lot of work. We'd be more than happy to move to England. Dh is Army, but he can go to RAF Molesworth, which is 60 miles from London. Oh, how I adore England. Best of luck with your PCS! I look forward to reading about all the "adventures." ;)

  5. Thanks! We're working on getting all our dates ironed out now. I think that I'll feel a lot more centered after I know when our stuff is getting picked up, when we are clearing out of the house, etc. I might have a little, tiny problem with control issues and being at the mercy of every organization on base really isn't so much fun. lol

  6. I would've been a puddle on the floor if we'd gone much longer without our orders. Two weeks to do all this work?! Yikes!

  7. I fully understand. I have also been absent from my blog dealing with real life stuff. Hopefully it will all fall into place and calm down soon. :-)

  8. I just came across your blog. I love reading everything! I read that you will be moving to Beale. We are currently stationed at Beale and have been for 5 years now. We live off base and have lived in Yuba City and now, Lincoln. If you have any questions, please email me. (pebbles831@aol.com)
